Uhhh... what was I supposed to talk about again?
Sure. Right. Devlog. What's up guys? I said that I would dedicate most of this devlog to the developer QNA, so I'm going to give most developer updates via that. Before that, though, let me give some basic updates:
More combat stuff. Who the fuck would've thought? I mostly reworked the class system this time around. I thought it was a bit underwhelming and could be so much more, so I've been working on that. Here's an image summarizing the new classes:
Is this a bit confusing? I hope not. But in the case that it is confusing, I also reworked the combat tutorial to include most of the new stuff. And in the case the tutorial isn't good enough, you also get a combat guide explaining all the new mechanics to carry with you as you go. Don't let that scare you though, most of the pages are just visual graphs and designed to be as easy to consume as possible. Here's an example page:
If that's still confusing.. uhh... umm... Fuck.
Aside from that, I reworked Act 2 and 4 a little. There's quite a bit of new content alongside some of the older content being recoded/rewritten. If you're going for a replay, you will probably see quite a bit of stuff you haven't seen before. So enjoy that.
And... to be honest. That's all I have for basic updates.
Look. I know this is a bit disappointing. But I'll be honest with you. The past few months have NOT been kind to me. So while I did make quite a bit of work since the first devlog, my mental has been so fucked that I barely remember any of it due to how much I dissociated the past few months away. I can't remember shit about what I did. It's why I decided to make this devlog a QNA. I don't know what the fuck to talk about! I figured I'd let you guys ask some questions and answer those instead. So let's do that.
No introduction needed. You guys asked me questions. I will now answer them.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for all of these mods (vessel, mih, oim)
A: Well, to be honest. It all just started from Vessel. Vessel itself was originally made as hatemail, after I got into a big conflict with alot of big people in the modding community at the time, while I was already at a low-point in my life. It made me so mad that I just laid down on the couch and just... stayed like that, for an hour or two. In that timespan, I started thinking about ways to get back at them, and eventually, thought after thought, I decided to make a mod to make fun of them. Not just them, rather, but the modding community overall. Fuck, the entire Omori community. I just wanted to get back at the Omori fandom for being such a piece of shit at the time.
Of course, that didn't stick. Hatemail is fun to make, but you can only make 20-30 minutes of content from hatemail until you actually have to make new content. So eventually, Vessel stopped being hatemail. While you can feel how it was intended to piss you off and show how much I hate the playerbase with how user-unfriendly some of the features are, that didn't come to last, as I eventually started making original content, tying it to characters, stories, and eventually creating the baseline for the "lore" of Vessel entirely. From there on was me using my newfound power to create dogshit mods to make a semi-interesting story and then leaving it like that. Seems people liked it.. for some reason.
Mari is Home was supposed to be a "serious" take on Vessel. Vessel if I wasn't shitposting, if you will. It was inspired by Tansa, a now scrapped mod made by El XD, who used to be a prominent figure in the community and was also a close friend of mine back then. I'd show anything of that mod if I could, but I'm pretty sure almost everything related to is LOST PROBLEMATIC MEDIAS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE A FANDOM IN OHIO. Sad. It was basically meant to be a more serious and horror-based take on a mod that played similarly to Vessel. There was no real "idea" to it unlike Vessel aside from what I had previously mentioned, and I mostly made up the entire story as I was reading Endless Dreaming by Otomerson as I ate chips. This is why the Blackspace Friends sort of talk like they do in that fic.
Omori is Missing was the byproduct of it all. Of my fans, of the lore, of everything that Vessel and Mari is Home spawned. I feel like there were things that both of those mods failed to answer. And I also felt like that with how much fanwork Vessel and Mari is Home had created, that I owed the fans an actual propr sendoff to the story. So I made Omori is Missing. To this day, the main idea behind Omori is Missing is to finally answer every question in the lore, to finally give the fans what they want, and to make sure this series ends on the best note it can. It's fanservice, for short.
Q: if there were an omori is missing fighting, how do you think the cast would play like
A: I don't play fighting games, but I do like matchup-unique things like special startup dialogues and the like. If I made a fighting game related to the OIM cast, there would definitely be a fuckton of interactions based on what characters you pick, both in and out of battle.
Q: whitenoise route when?
Q: Do Omori and Tako-chan get a happy ending?🥺
A: OMORI IS MISSING will get a happy ending. I think there's enough mods with bittersweet/sad/open ended endings already. I want this mod to end on a positive note. I promise you that there will be no "bad end" for any of the protagonists. I am 12 years old and I want all my favorites to be happy.
Q: is He coming.
A: Hopefully out of the closet.
Q: Official John body pillows when?/Official smo2 body pillows when?
A: I do intend to make merchandise of the mod after Demo 3. I'm not sure what exactly it will be about, but sure. I'll ask my producer if we can make those.
Q: Will there be an achivements guide at some point
A: If someone makes one, I'll share it around and make it official. Given it explains every achievement.
Q: More Limbo Doc Propaganda. This isn't a question, it's a command.
A: Finish Chapter 2.
Q: Given that Times New Rowan is based off of a font, and we are aware that his father is John, unknown secondary parent, can we assume that, bearing in mind toby fox contributed to Omori, either Sans or Papyrus are TNRs biological mother? Given they also have font based names? I have 500 dollars riding on this answer, choose wisely
A: Act 4 already tells you who TNR's mother is. Fake fan.
Q: tbh i don’t really know what to ask uhh queen of hatred x smo2 yuri real?????
A: I don't play Limbus games.
Q: do you wear wigs/have you worn wigs/will you wear wigs/when will you wear wigs
A: I'll put an image of me wearing a wig in the Demo 3 files. Don't forget to check.
Q: are they any influences to oim that arent video games
A: Music. Alot of music. I usually come up with like, everything I make as I listen to music. If I go deaf it will be the fucking end of me. I usually base things off of whatever I'm listening to at the moment, thinking of a character or place that fits the song I'm listening to. Most of OIM was made this way. Most of MIH was also made this way. Vessel was surprisingly not made this way. But you get what I mean. Listen to music!
Q: If there are cars in ozumari's headspace, what cars would the cast drive?
A: OMORI does have a motorbike. She just doesn't use it much. John would ride whatever is the most expensive. Everyone else isn't qualified except PB, who prefers public transport.
Q: What's you're design process when making new areas, do you have like predetermined ideas already sketched out or do you go with what feels natural.
A: Aside from listening to music (see above), I usually make stuff up as I go. But this is usually just for small areas. If an area is big or plot important, I usually plot it out in my head before making it, and usually sketch it down somewhere if it's so big that I may forget the details. I usually do mapping best when it's spontaneous though, and the sketches are usually to remind me what/where everything is supposed to be and why.
Q: What are some of the goals you want to achieve and design ideas with oim's combat.
A: To make it fun, I guess. That's really it. I don't think about it that much, I just implement whatever I think would be easy to understand, but still take skill to fully utilize, alongside "fitting" the preexisting combat mechanics I have added already. One of the biggest issues when it comes to these things is bloat. I always try my best to make sure whatever I add actually fits and isn't out of place. I want the combat to be not too simple but not unnecessarily complicated.
Q: What was the stuff about the previous combat systems that you felt needed to be overhauled.
A: It just... didn't have enough? I guess. The overhauls have never completely changed previous stuff, only tweaked and added onto it. I always felt like as I made more and more acts, that the combat system started feeling inadequate to adapt to the changing combat that increased in difficulty and added new forms of challenges. So I "overhauled" it by adding things that didn't make it fall behind. That's usually how you make things anyway. You make a concept and then add onto it as it needs more things.
Q: does Fragment have any connection to the Sunmen and/or Moonmen?
A: She's related to BASIL and nobody else. She's also a massive prick.
Q: Who are your favorite and least favorite characters in OIM?
A: SMO2 for both. I also really like JOHN and SCARFACE though. I've had them rotating in my mind for 4 years but couldn't find a good excuse to put them in until now. Patience finally rewarded for once, huh?
Q: does Scarface's ability to sense frequencies work like how electrolocation/electroreception works in certain species of fish?
A: If you want to REALLY simplify it, yes. He can sense just about anything, though. He senses the "existence" of things, in a way. If you have any sort of bearing in this universe, that bearing, one way or another, shows itself. Scarface sees things via sensing those bearings. While they are certain of location, they can be a bit imprecise on WHAT the bearing is, however, which is why he can't differentiate people.
Q: Are Auby(sma2) and Sunman Aubrey(the super tall one in The Nest) in any way related?
A: No.
Q: Do smo2's clones(Tako, Uni, Meido, Inko) count as sunmen?
A: Yes.
Q: Does Felix by any chance has a canon last name? ðŸ¦
A: Wolfé.
Q: I am very interested in the lore,I jst wanna know how complicated would it get in the future updates n stuff, holy peak
A: As mentioned before, I want OIM to tie up every loose end in the story. I've had enough of those lingering around for the past 4 years. No more bullshit vagueposting. We finish this with this mod.
Q: Do you have voiceclaims for any of your characters?
A: JOHN is Master Shake and SMO2 and SMO1 are both canonically voice acted by people on the dev team. Aside from that... not really.
Q: Is OIM's battle system inspired by anything? Its super unique and fun
A: Most of it is based on LISA combat, particularly the LISA THE POINTLESS fangame. Most things I just bullshitted and made by fucking around with code, though.
Q: idk if someone's asked this in the server already yet but what was TNR and Auby's first meeting like? They're so cute!!!!!!!!!!!! photobomb canon. Also since theyre dating, who confessed first? Also, also, are we gonna get to see more of Clome in the new update :3? Speaking of Clome, does SMO2 have any strong opinion of him? I know she hasn't really met/talked to him outside of kinda just that one optional cutscene with the other AU Omoris, but still haha. Also, also, also, what's been the biggest bump when it comes to making OIM/MIH/Vessel individually? Also, also, also, also, was the vessel series inspired by anything in specific or just a compile of ideas? What was going through your head when making the first vessel game? Was it meant to have multiple entries like how it does? Is Reality Ends ever gonna get a reupload on Itch or any other game site like gamejolt? I know TNR and Auby are presumably never gonna be seen again past the fight with Stranger, which makes sense, but is Stranger himself ever gonna be shown again? If not, what's he gonna do now that Omori doesn't remember anything and Sunny is seemingly gone for good along with the other regular headspace companions?
A: Oh boy. So, in order... TNR and Auby were first kind of scared of each other. Neither of them were used to seeing people who could actually form rational thought beforehand, so they thought one would lunge at the other. But once they noticed they were both relatively intelligent, they decided to stick together to survive. TNR confessed first. Maybe not in Demo 3, but you will see alot more of Clome in the rest of the mod. SMO2 hates all capitalists and forms of authority, though, so she's not particualry fond of Clome. See above question. Reality Ends is reuploaded on Itch.io now. Thanks to whoever asked this. Stranger probably won't show up again. He will probably try to move on from his beef with Omori and figure out a new purpose in life. While it's unclear what exactly he will do, he will likely be fine. Maybe you should call him?
Q: Who is The Dullahan a Sunman reincarnation of? (You don't have to answer if this counts as spoilers)
A: SUNNY. I mean, come on, look at his fit in the shopkeeper sprite. It's literally a blue-tinted version of how he dresses.
Q: Do Mincy, Felix, and The Judge appear anywhere in Vessel/OMMTATOF like how John and Damian do?
A: Not anywhere I can recall. But they will be in OMORI IS MISSING. Don't worry.
UKEW AND AYY OVAR :DDDD OH FUGG ITS NEARLY 2 AM AT MIDNIGHT :DDDDD I NEEB TO SLEEB :DDDDDD ASHIUFDY AS89
